Ringing in 2014 with Style!

We have kicked off a new Carnival Season and with that king cakes and a new theme. The Krewe of Southdowns theme this year is Français. We are busy coming up with our own take on this theme that incorporates our very own flair and style. SHHhh... no peaking!

Last year for the theme Time Machine we decided on Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. We had a blast figuring out how to build and roll with a life sized telephone booth. Our krewe had a wonderful time with the entire process from dreams to creation, if not helped with a few libations.

 

This year the parade will roll on Friday February 28th at 7pm. The parade will start on Glassgow and end at Cloverdale and Perkins. The tentative parade map can be found at the bottom of this post.

As we are not lining up the floats in a parking lot this year it is imperative that we have your insurance forms signed by the Driver's Meeting, the Monday before we roll, so that we can have all the armbands we need by parade time. The Bead Fairy Cometh!

I haven't updated this in a while... We have been busy busy!

We have our plans for the float already in action. What is it you ask? You will have to wait until parade day to find out! We have costumes ordered and pieces are arriving by mail almost daily. Beads and other throws have been ordered and have already arrived and are waiting for the bead sorting party tomorrow. And the bead fairy keeps visiting me! I must be a good girl :)

I will periodically check my mailbox in the G&A Culture Hearth and to my surprise I have gotten several deliveries of Mardi Gras beads from the bead fairy! Its like Christmas during Mardi Gras! Some of the beads are pretty awesome. There was totally a set that reminds me of the 80's. Now I have to figure out how to get all of these in my car tomorrow. At least there isn't a seminar to work around on top of it all.

Quest Givers!

We had a meeting of the Chiefs yesterday and ironed out all of the kinks with this years krewe. Got a lot done even with all the A.D.D moments that were flying around through the air. Drafted a bunch of emails that are to be sent out shortly, I am very pleased with my quest themed email :) We are hoping to inventory everything by the end of the week (hopefully with some help) to figure out where we stand with ordering new supplies.

We are currently looking for participants and organizers to complete the merry fun-making of this years parade!
